LOG CHALET RENOVATION – CATSKILLS

Tucked within 17 wooded acres in the Catskills, the Hirox log chalet had the bones of a dream retreat but had fallen into deep disrepair. Built in 1990 as its owner’s personal escape, the cabin was filled with quirks and character but had not been updated in more than 30 years*. LMNTL took on the renovation in 2021 with a vision: to honor the cabin’s rustic charm while reimagining it as a modern, sustainable haven for gathering, relaxing, and connecting to nature.

Inside, the spaces were reshaped to elevate daily living. The main-level kitchen now blends warmth and functionality, with repurposed cabinetry, sleek quartzite counters, and high-performance appliances that invite cooking and conversation. A refreshed bath, updated bedrooms, and a custom loft privacy wall with integrated bookshelf and planter make the interiors more comfortable and personal.

Downstairs, radiant-heated floors and bold, jewel-toned walls turn what was once a dated, cluttered basement into a cozy, flexible living space that adapts easily from movie nights to guest quarters.

The exterior transformation was equally dramatic. A durable metal roof and expanded skylights flood the interiors with daylight, while a 28-panel solar array brings the home close to net-zero energy. The log façade was carefully restored, stained a rich red that glows against the forest backdrop, and a new Trex wraparound deck extends the living space outward—perfect for taking in mountain views year-round. Even the pool was renewed with a new liner and metallic brass finish that adds a touch of playfulness and luxury.

Finally, the oversized garage was reborn as a vibrant game room with a custom mural, while the loft above was finished into a conditioned retreat, giving the home new capacity to host friends and family.

What was once a dated cabin is now a resilient, welcoming retreat—one that preserves the soul of its original design while offering modern performance, comfort, and character.
